Announcing the 2011 Haunted Forest

The Big Rock Open was a huge success

Inside the Big Rock Café and Grocery attendees of the Big Rock Open bid on live auction prizes, Mark Pearson (at the open garage door) did a great job as our auctioneer.

Larry Otos puts his swing on display, as Mark Pearson watches in the background.

If you’ve not been to the Big Rock Café and Grocery, it has an outside (but under cover) seating area – just outside the garage door. This sign is on the wall outside.

Mike Moe and Mark Pearson enjoy the day on the links.

Cody Audette (one of the owners of the Big Rock Café and Grocery) not only helps put this all together, he enjoys himself while doing it.

Big Rock Open Golf Tournament this weekend

The Big Rock Open is the Park Foundation’s annual fundraiser, with the proceeds going toward scholarships and capital projects. And while you may not be a golfer (and it’s a golf tournament) we hope you’ll attend the function anyway. The event is being hosted by the Big Rock Café and Grocery. It is an all ages establishment with great food that also serves beer and wine.

The raffle and auction items will be available for viewing by 2:00 pm, which is when the raffle tickets go on sale. Their fajita meal special will be available starting about 5:00 pm. On the raffle items one need not be present to win.

If you are a golfer and want to participate, there are still a few slots available.

The meal special, raffle tickets, and bidding on auction items is all open to “non-tournament” participants. More information can be found here.

Thank you for your support and we hope to see you there!

The Tulip Festival Street Fair

On April 16th/17th the Parks Foundation had a booth at the annual Skagit Tulip Festival Street Fair. The weather was cool, but mostly sunny and a lot of people turned out.

On Sunday the Mount Vernon Trail Builders attracted some attention to the Parks Foundation booth using Jim Taylor’s beautifully refurbished wheelbarrow which was filled with native vegetation.

Please join us for a trail work session on Sunday May, 22

Friends of Little Mountain and Mount Vernon Trail Builders will be hosting a trail maintenance work party to restore a hiking trail in Little Mountain Park.
The details are available on the Mount Vernon Trail Builders website.

We’re building a bridge at Little Mountain Park

We’re planning a new nature trail at Little Mountain Park. The new trailhead and parking area will be half a mile east of the Little Mountain Park entrance on Little Mountain Road. The new trail needs a bridge to cross a scenic forest creek and connect to the other multi-use trails in the Little Mountain trail system. The proposed bridge will be built very similar to this one in the Hood Canal area.

The Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon will make a major contribution towards funding this bridge.
